
- Lufthansa Cargo christened its fourth Boeing 777F “Olá Brazil.” Lufthansa is emphasising its commitment to Brazil with this greeting. The carrier is investing in five new Boeing 777Fs as part of the Lufthansa Cargo 2020 future program. Each of the freighters can carry up to 103 tonnes of cargo.
- Ukraine International Airlines started a new direct service between Düsseldorf and Kiev, Ukraine. The B737 flight operates six times per week, offering a cargo capacity of two tonnes per flight to and from Boryspil International Airport in Ukraine. Cargo handling was awarded to Düsseldorf Airport Cargo with cargo sales awarded to GSSA Globe Air Cargo.
- Greensboro, N.C.-based TIMCO Aviation Services, a subsidiary of the Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Ltd., launched new line maintenance and cabin services operations at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in mid-May, and at San Francisco International Airport in early June.
- Alaska Airlines launched daily round-trip service between Seattle and Tampa, Fla.
- The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration announced that the Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) test site is ready to conduct UAS research. The site is the fourth of six to become operational.
- The 6th International Exhibition for Logistics, Mobility, IT and Supply Chain Management (transport logistic China 2014) took place June 17-19 in Shanghai. The three-day event attracted 492 exhibitors from 47 countries and 16,800 visitors from 69 countries and regions.
- American Airlines Cargo began offering full cargo service to and from Tampa, Fla. Produce, spare parts and tropical fish are expected to be the primary exports out of the city. Air General will act as American’s handler in Tampa.
- This July 4, Independence Day in the U.S., DHL Express and nonprofit organization Pizzas 4 Patriots are delivering 5,000 pizzas to troops even in the furthest operating bases in Afghanistan. DHL Express is donating the staff, infrastructure and resources to execute this mission. DHL personnel will load the pizzas onto direct U.S. flights to the Middle East, re-icing the packages along the route.
- IAG Cargo launched its Cargo Connector service in Houston and Seattle, following a three-week trial at the airports. For consignments of less than 300 kilograms (661 pounds), freight forwarders in these cities can now opt to have IAG Cargo collect and courier cargo direct from their premises to the airport, at no additional cost.
- Iberia is strengthening its Madrid-Bogota route in the summer months, offering two extra flights per week starting Aug. 9 and three new flights per week starting in September. This makes for a total of 10 flights.
