Eight Lynx Mk21A helicopters will be transported by XPO Logistics from Brazil to the U.K. for AgustaWestland, a major manufacturer of rotary-wing aircraft. XPO, which has a long-standing relationship with AgustaWestland for the transportation of helicopter parts, will be transporting these helicopters for a phased upgrade program for the Brazilian Navy.
AgustaWestland said it plans to replace engines, navigations systems, display consoles and mission avionics on the maritime helicopters. The work will take place at AgustaWestland’s manufacturing and maintenance facility in Yeovil, U.K. When the work is complete, XPO will return the refurbished helicopters back to Brazil by either air- or seafreight.
Part of Italy’s Finmeccanica, AgustaWestland operates main facilities in Italy, the U.K., the United States and Poland. It operates globally through a variety of subsidiaries and joint ventures, and also collaborates with aerospace and defense companies. Familiar with customs regulations and naval procedures for export and import in Brazil, XPO operates from locations in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
