As Turkish Airlines’ passenger operations migrate to Istanbul New Airport (ISL), cargo moving in the bellyhold will follow, while its freighter services will continue operating at Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST).
ISL, due to fully open on Dec. 29, will have an initial capacity of 2.5 million tonnes, which will scale up to 6 million tonnes once all four phases of construction are completed. Turkish Cargo’s operations at the airport will launch with 2 million tonnes of capacity, before increasing to 4 million tonnes once construction is complete. Turkish Cargo plans to eventually move all of its cargo operations to the new airport, as IST is slated for closure.
Those interested in learning more about Turkish Cargo are invited to attend Cargo Facts EMEA, where Turhan Özen, chief officer cargo, Turkish Cargo, will present on the topic. The event will be held 4-6 February at The Westin Grand Frankfurt. Register before 14 December to take advantage of early bird rates. To register or for more information, visit www.cargofactsemea.com.
