- Lufthansa, Airbus’ biggest airline customer and operator, decided to expand its long-haul fleet with a commitment for up to 55 A350-900 aircraft (pictured above), 25 firm and 30 options. Lufthansa also has the flexibility to convert some of the order to the larger A350-1000.
- Dubai World Central announced that Hellman Calipar Healthcare Logistics, a strategic joint venture between Hellman Worldwide Logistics from Germany and Calipar Integrated Services from India, has begun work on its warehouse extension project that will double the warehouse capacity of the company by adding more than 12,500 temperature-controlled pallet positions in a new dedicated health care facility. Upon completion, this will be the largest health care warehouse in the region.
- ATR, a European manufacturer of turboprop aircraft, and Caribbean carrier LIAT announced the signing of a Global Maintenance Agreement for the airline’s new fleet of ATR-600 aircraft. Signed for an initial period of 10 years, the contract will cover the four ATR 42-600s and four ATR 72-600s that will be operated by the airline in the near future.
- CEVA Logistics announced a contract renewal and expansion of business with Ford Motor Company. CEVA will provide a range of logistics functions for Ford’s Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Mo. The Kansas City operation is CEVA’s longest running automotive manufacturing support operation for Ford in the Americas.
- Etihad Airways unveiled new timings for its daily service between São Paulo and Abu Dhabi. From Oct. 27 to Dec. 19, flights will depart from the Brazilian city at 7:15 p.m., and from Dec. 20 onwards, flights will depart at 11:15 p.m. Etihad also increased its flights to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, from nine to 11 a week.
