- Etihad Airways launched its inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi to Sana’a (pictured above), Yemen’s political and commercial capital.
- Icelandic Group UK Ltd has become the latest shipper to choose iCE from Impatex, a supplier of Customs software, to handle its Customs processing. Icelandic Group UK, based in Grimsby, UK, imports headed and gutted fish into the EU and then ships it to processing plants in the Far East. The fish are then re-imported as fillets and portions for distribution to major supermarkets and restaurant groups.
- Darwin Airline, a Swiss regional company, is linking Leipzig/Halle Airport with daily flights to Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol Airports. The routes to Paris and Amsterdam are served twice daily Mondays to Fridays. There is one service to Paris and Amsterdam on Saturdays and Sundays.
- SNTTA Cargo, a GSA for international airlines, has launched a branded version of Calogi’s online portal. More than 50 forwarders subscribed to the new web portal on the first day of its launch. Calogi is a provider of online air cargo services. SNTTA clients can now connect in real-time with freight forwarders.
- In light of “recent soft international airfreight market conditions,” Qantas will not finalize a lease agreement for a Boeing 747-ERF freighter, a Qantas spokesperson announced. In April, the airline announced its intention to lease the aircraft. Qantas was intending to replace an older 747-400 freighter with the 747-ERF. This change does not affect Qantas’s services, and the existing international freighter schedule remains in place. The spokesperson said the airline will re-examine options when the markets have strengthened.

- Czech Airlines, the flag carrier of the Czech Republic, signed a contract with LUG aircargo handling at Franz Josef Strauss Airport in Munich. LUG will handle the freight of Czech Airlines’ passenger planes as well as road feeder traffic. This includes cargo transported in cooperation with the carrier’s interline partner All Nippon Airways to and from Japan.
- A.R.T. Logistics, a logistics company focused on Central Asia, Russia and the CIS, increased its less-than-truckload service connecting Europe to Mongolia to three times a month using three trucks. The development of mining operations in Mongolia and the supply of equipment as well as general supplies are driving demand for transport services from Europe to the mine sites.

- Southeastern Freight Lines, a provider of regional less-than-truckload transportation services, is celebrating 60 years at its Florence, S.C., service center. Originally opened in September of 1953, the Florence service center features more than 3,500 square feet of office space and almost 16,000 square feet of dock space, including 43 dock doors.
- China Airlines launched a flight between Taoyuan, Taiwan, and Busan, South Korea, shortening travel time between Taiwan and South Korea’s second-largest city to 2.5 hours. China Airlines will operate the service six times a week with its B737-800 aircraft.
- South Bend, Ind.-based Towne Air Freight is investing $3 million to purchase 192 new Toyota forklifts for delivery in September and October. The company is observing its 50th anniversary this year.
