- IAG Cargo’s small freight collection service, Cargo Connector (pictured above), is now available to freight forwarders operating in the catchment areas of Atlanta Hartsfield–Jackson and Dallas/Fort Worth international airports. For consignments of less than 200 kilograms (440 pounds), freight forwarders in these cities can now opt to have IAG Cargo collect and courier cargo direct from their premises to the airport at no additional cost, with freight screening arranged as required.
- CEVA Logistics, a global supply chain company, is among the first freight management companies to sign up to the e-AWB with the International Air Transport Association. The agreement moves CEVA one step closer to paperless airfreight operations.
- BDP International, a global logistics and transportation services company, took a majority equity position in Sweden’s Polar Logistics AB, a member of its global network. Based in Stockholm, the resulting joint venture will operate as BDP International Sweden under its current management team. In addition to Sweden, BDP has affiliates in Denmark, Norway and Finland.
- Detlef Trefzger has become CEO of Kuehne + Nagel. Trefzger has been a member of the Kuehne + Nagel management board since March and has been responsible for contract and integrated logistics. He will continue to be responsible for contract and integrated logistics until further notice. Prior to joining Kuehne + Nagel, Trefzger was on the executive board of Schenker AG, Essen, Germany, from 2004 to 2012.
- An Airbus flight (pictured left) on behalf of the Red Cross Red Crescent landed in Amman, Jordan, transporting 25 tonnes of medical equipment and supplies as well as medical and logistics personnel. This Airbus A340-600 test aircraft was loaded in Helsinki by the Finnish Red Cross, with help from Finnair Cargo. These supplies will enable the delivery of medical services in a new Syrian refugee camp being set up in Azraq, Jordan, which will accommodate up to 130,000 people.
- Boeing, International Lease Finance Corporation and Aeromexico marked the first delivery of a 787 Dreamliner for use by the Mexico-City-based carrier. The airplane is the first of nine 787-8 airplanes that Aeromexico will operate, including five on lease from ILFC. The airline will operate a total of 19 Dreamliners, including 10 787-9 models ordered last year.
- Air Tahiti Nui, the French Polynesia’s flag carrier, chose to use CHAMP Cargosystems’ Cargospot application suite to automate its entire commercial and operations process. The application has been rolled out to more than 200 companies worldwide.
- Damco began offering access to Myanmar after being granted a permanent license to operate under its own legal entity in the country, making the company one of the first supply chain service providers to offer end-to-end logistics services in the country. Myanmar, with about 60 million people, is implementing reforms and in 2012, it was opened to business with companies from the U.S., Europe and beyond.
- Malaysia Airlines will begin a third daily service in November between Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
