- Emirates will launch services Nov. 5 to Sialkot, Pakistan, its fifth route to the country. (Sialkot Clock Tower pictured above) The four weekly flights will be operated by an Airbus A330-200. The aircraft can carry up to 17 tonnes of cargo. Sialkot is the capital of Sialkot District located in the northeast of the Punjab province in Pakistan. The area is famous for producing and exporting sports goods and clothing, gloves, surgical instruments, cutlery, ceramics and leather garments, while imports to the region focus on the supply of raw materials for manufacturing those products.
- Airbus has delivered its 8,000th aircraft, an A320 for the Indonesian wing of AirAsia. AirAsia Group operates an all-Airbus fleet. The airline is the largest customer for the A320 family, having ordered a total of 475 aircraft.
- UTi Worldwide Inc., a global supply chain services company, opened its new London operations in Heathrow. Located close to Heathrow International Airport, the building is a highly secure facility. As the main air and road facility in the UK, the operation offers X-ray screening and bonded storage, including refrigerated capabilities. Dangerous goods safety advisers are on staff.
- Precision Conversions won a contract to provide Air China Cargo, a joint venture between Air China and Cathay Pacific Airways, a total of four full 15-cargo position 757-200PCFs. The first aircraft was inducted for modification at the Taikoo Aircraft Engineering Co. maintenance facility in Xiamen, China. The second aircraft will commence modification in November. The remaining two aircraft are being placed in production slots for early 2014. All four aircraft will be used for express package transportation in China.
- MASkargo expedited the movement of an urgent oil and gas shipment (pictured right) received during the eve of Hari Raya, a Muslim holiday marking the end of Ramadan. It is also called Eid al-Fitr. Ground equipment and manpower were mobilized for the charter operation on board the A330-200 freighter from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Bintulu, Malaysia via the Kuching International Airport.
- The Charlottesville, Va., operations of Swift Air Logistics will expand its service area to include the Virginia cities of Winchester, Stephens City, Front Royal and Strasburg. Swift Air’s services include trucking, warehousing and distribution.
- Qantas improved its international network for anyone traveling to Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Auckland, New Zealand and Christchurch, New Zealand. The airline is starting a new Perth–Auckland route to be offered on a seasonal basis between early December and the end of January. Qantas is also upgrading one return Sydney–Hong Kong service to an Airbus A380, increasing the frequency for the Brisbane–Los Angeles route to daily and retiming Qantas’ existing Sydney–Christchurch service so that it connects with services from Sydney and complements the existing Emirates service on this route.
- Crane Worldwide Logistics is celebrating five years in business. Since its founding, Crane Worldwide has expanded internationally to 101 locations in 25 countries and moved into new headquarters with warehouse in Houston.
- CSafe Global, a producer of mobile refrigeration units for life sciences, health care, military and international disaster relief agencies, announced a new European business: CSafe Global Cooperatief UA, located at Schiphol. This will support CSafe’s growing European and Middle Eastern business. Edwin Visser joins the team of CSafe Global sales directors in Europe and will be based at the new Netherlands business.
