- Dublin-based airline Aer Arann has received its first ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft (pictured above). The aircraft is the first of eight ATR 72-600s ordered by the airline in a contract valued at some US$187 million. Seven other planes are scheduled to be delivered in 2013 and 2014. With three ATR 72-500s already in service, the new planes will bring the total fleet of ATRs operated by Aer Arann to 11.
- Etihad Airways has been named the Middle East’s Leading Airline at the World Travel Awards Middle East for a seventh consecutive year. The accolade was one of three awards won by the airline during the event held at Dubai’s Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa. Etihad Airways was also recognized for the Middle East’s Leading Airline First Class and Middle East’s Leading Cabin Crew.
- Etihad Cargo has updated its 2013 summer schedule. From June, Etihad Cargo’s freighter fleet of nine aircraft will operate additional frequencies from Abu Dhabi to Benghazi; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Frankfurt; Guangzhou, China and Khartoum, Sudan. New weekly routes to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and to Vienna will also begin along with the addition of a twice-weekly freighter operation to Singapore and Sydney.
- Finnair Cargo is adjusting its freighter service schedule by suspending Chicago routes to offer more capacity for cargo traffic between Europe and Asia. The MD-11F freighter returns directly to Helsinki from Brussels on Sundays, connecting Brussels to Finnair’s Asian network, including direct freighter connections to Hong Kong and Mumbai.
- Panalpina is the first major freight forwarder moving into Liege Airport’s new Cargo City North in Belgium.
- AB Logistics has leased 4,512 square feet of space for its airfreight business in Boston. The location is one of the closest to the main gate of Boston’s Logan International Airport.
- Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo and Envirotrainer are continuing their partnership with the airline using active temperature-controlled containers for pharmaceuticals. Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo also began a new security screening method at Schiphol in line with new EU security regulations. The Remote Explosive Scent Tracing method allows for the screening of an entire truckload of cargo at once by specially trained explosive detection dogs.
- FL Technics, a global provider of integrated aircraft maintenance and repair services, is further developing its component stock by signing a consignment agreement with a Florida-based FAA/EASA certified repair company XTRA Aerospace. According to the agreement, the companies will establish a Boeing 737 NG and CL component stock in Vilnius, Lithuania.
- Hoar Program Management has announced that Brasfield & Gorrie and Covenant Steel, both Alabama-based companies, have been awarded contracts for the Airbus Assembly Line project. Brasfield & Gorrie will construct the piles and foundations for the Final Assembly Line Hangar and Service Building, and Covenant Steel will be responsible for the building steel and the envelope.
