Norwegian Cargo signs airmail agreement with Royal Mail

Norwegian Cargo has signed a two-year agreement with Royal Mail’s Gatwick Air Mail Unit to carry international airmail shipments between the U.K., Scandinavia and the U.S. The carrier said that, with its long-haul network continuing to grow, freight forwarders will have access to at least 180 tonnes of capacity each week on trans-Atlantic routes throughout the winter.

Capacity has increased with Norwegian’s daily flights from London Gatwick to New York, and with flights to Los Angeles increasing to four times a week beginning in the spring of 2016. Gatwick-to-Boston flights will begin in May, and additional long-haul routes from the U.K. are also in the works.

“Royal Mail has already trusted us to ship around 200 tonnes of mail to the U.S. and Scandinavia so far this year, and our U.K. services will expand with new routes and more capacity to the world’s leading cargo hubs,” said Bjorn Erik Barman-Jenssen, Norwegian’s head of cargo.

Norwegian’s long-haul destinations are served by 787 aircraft. The carrier offers freight capacity to all destinations in Scandinavia, and a range of European destinations, in addition to Bangkok, New York, Orlando, Oakland, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale.
