Norwegian Cargo has signed an agreement with Dutch trucking firm Jan de Rijk Logistics to provide road-feeder services at more than 50 air hubs around Europe.
Under the terms of the deal, Jan de Rijk will perform road-feeder services for Norwegian for airfreight arriving from the United States to London’s Gatwick Airport. The trucking firm will also provide surface transport to several European cargo hubs served by Norwegian, including Amsterdam, Brussels and Frankfurt. Delivery of airfreight in this expanded network will be made within 48 hours of departure, Jan de Rijk said.
“Norwegian Cargo can give forwarders even more peace of mind as Jan de Rijk’s extensive trucking network, significant expertise and fleet of specialist vehicles will efficiently support our cargo operations,” said Bjørn Erik Barman-Jenssen, head of cargo at Norwegian.
The low-cost carriers can offer up to 15 tonnes of cargo capacity on its fleet of eight 787-8 aircraft, which service five U.S. destinations from Gatwick: New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale and Boston. Currently, Norwegian has 30 orders of the larger 787-9s on order.
Jan de Rijk also said it is TAPA TSR1 and IATA CEIV-Pharma certified for delivery of high-value, specialty products.
