Kuehne + Nagel (K+N) is expanding its services in Southeast Asia with the acquisition of the logistics operations of Indonesian logistics company Wira Logistics.
The move will strengthen K+N’s contract logistics services, warehousing capacity and distribution network in Asia to offer customers end-to-end logistics across Indonesia – where K+N has been operating since 1992. The company cites that imports and exports account for close to US$300 billion per year in the country.
“Indonesia is arguably the most important internet market in Southeast Asia in terms of its sheer size, emerging middle class and digitally savvy population,” said Gianfranco Sgro, member of the managing board of K+N International AG responsible for contract logistics. “With this acquisition, we can leverage our global e-commerce strategy.”
K+N has been working to expand its services worldwide toward the goal of offering integrated services for customers. In September, it opened new offices in Baku, Azerbaijan, and Almaty, Kazakhstan to capitalize on a rise in demand for oil and gas exploration.
