- Swissport International and Virgin Atlantic Airways have signed a five-year collaboration agreement. “This long-term global strategic relationship with regard to cargo handling will allow both parties to explore savings in overhead costs, where Swissport could perform additional services with an overall target of improving financial conditions and quality standards,” Swissport’s John Batten said in a statement. “It is an opportunity to start working more closely together using the agreement as a springboard into other areas and opportunities.”
- The Independent Pilots Association will file an opening brief in its case against the Federal Aviation Administration on April 24. The union is challenging the organization’s exclusion of cargo pilots in its rule on pilot fatigue. Oral arguments in the case are expected to start in December, and a final ruling could be out as early as February 2013.
- IAG Cargo has inked a deal with Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling to market its cargo-hold space via Iberia Cargo. Under the agreement, which initially covers a two-year period, Iberia Cargo will serve as the GSA for cargo and mail space in Vueling’s fleet.
- Trans Global Logistics has opened a new facility in Atlanta as part of a strategic expansion initiative. According to a press release, the Atlanta office will be instrumental in growing Trans Global’s sea- and airfreight operations in Latin America, as Atlanta benefits from connectivity to Miami, the key Latin America gateway.
