Cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport in October was up over the previous year by 2 percent to 392,000 tonnes. This is the second consecutive month of year-over-year cargo volume growth at HKIA. Passenger volume also rose by 7.7 percent, to 5.8 million.
The cargo increase was mainly due to imports, which were up 4 percent from October 2014. Exports and transshipments grew 1 percent and 2 percent respectively year-over-year. Traffic to and from Europe, Australasia and North America increased most significantly.
In the ten months through October this year, HKIA has handled 3.58 million tonnes of cargo, up just 0.4 percent over the same period last year.
HKIA handled nearly 4.42 tonnes of cargo in 2014, which was a 6 percent increase over 2013 .
