The Volga-Dnepr Group has committed itself to taking care of the costs associated with the Nov. 20 terrorist attack in Mali, and has set up a fund to help the families of the six employees who were murdered.
Volga-Dnepr footed the bill to bring the bodies of the crewmembers back to Russia and also paid for their entire funeral costs. Each of the victims’ families received an insurance settlement of 2 million rubles (about US$30,000), while other crewmembers who survived the attack have been given paid leave and psychological counseling.
In addition, Volga-Dnepr has established special accounts for those in the air cargo community who wish to make financial donations to the families affected by the tragedy. Funeral services were held in Ulyanovsk on Nov. 30 for all six of the deceased. The ceremony was attended by thousands of people, with the local civic hall unable to fit everyone in who came to pay their respects.
