Steve Gunning has been appointed CEO of IAG Cargo.
Gunning has senior management and leadership experience in both the finance and airline industries. Prior to this appointment, he was managing director for British Airways World Cargo.
Gunning has spent the past two years integrating the British Airways and Iberia cargo divisions into a single business. He began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he qualified as a chartered accountant and worked in the UK and the U.S.
“I am delighted Steve is joining the group’s management committee,” IAG CEO Willie Walsh said. “His commitment to the business has led to significant changes in the way we manage our cargo divisions. Steve’s experience will be invaluable. His results-oriented approach and ability to think strategically will play an essential role in the group’s decision-making.”
Gunning is also chairman of the International Air Transport Association’s Cargo Committee.
“IAG Cargo is an important part of the group, and I am excited about the role it can play in achieving IAG’s wider objectives and providing great service to our customers,” Gunning said. “IAG is one of the world’s largest airline groups with 435 aircraft flying to 230 destinations, carrying 700,000 tonnes of cargo and over 67 million customers each year. Based on revenue, it is the sixth largest airline group in the world. IAG has been formed to lead global consolidation in the industry and drive scalable revenue and cost synergies between its operating companies. During the past two years, in addition to setting up a new group cargo business, IAG has launched a new low-cost airline, Iberia Express, acquired bmi and more recently, Vueling Airlines, the third largest low-cost carrier in Europe.”
