The United Kingdom-based logistics operator GBA Services received approval as a “registered haulier” under the German Aviation Act, granting the company’s recently launched German branch approval to transport all secured air cargo alongside known consignors and agents.
The German Aviation Act was recently strengthened to require shippers, freight forwarders and hauliers working on their behalf to create a security manual establishing all procedures. The new act also requires all companies involved in ground transportation of airfreight in Germany to appoint a security manager and provide drivers with security training, in addition to performing background checks. The newly strengthened act goes into effect in March. GBA has its own internal trainer to maintain compliance under the act, and is now certified for five years under its current approval.
GBA Services’ German branch opened in early September 2017 and includes a fleet of Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) II-compliant vehicles with electronic locks and seals, GPS tracking and anti-hijacking devices. The company also opened an office in Lisbon late in 2017, and has established operations in the U.K., Austria and Poland.
