Drone Delivery Canada agreement establishes Edmonton Airport as drone delivery hub

In the latest agreement under its ambitious expansion plans, Drone Delivery Canada (DDC) has entered into a five-year agreement with the Edmonton Regional Airports Authority to establish the first drone delivery hub at a major airport, at Edmonton International Airport (YEG).

DDC will work with the airport authority to build out flight routes from YEG using the drone’s DroneSpot takeoff and landing zones. DDC and the airport authority will also promote and market the drone’s delivery services in the controlled airspace. After the initial five-year term, the agreement is eligible for renewal in successive one-year terms.

“We will continue to work with ERAA and Transport Canada to define particular routes, and with ERAA and Air Canada to negotiate revenue metrics and other commercial terms, to be announced in future press releases,” said DDC President and CEO Michael Zahra in a statement on the new agreement. He added that the company will use the YEG agreement to “further our current expertise in operating at a major airport in controlled airspace to monetize similar opportunities globally.”
