CEVA ready to roll with ACE customs system

With a few weeks to go before the deadline for freight forwarders in the United States to file their customs entries using ACE (the Automated Commercial Environment), CEVA Logistics said it has completed the implementation of the new customs brokerage system across its U.S. network.

“Our implementation with CargoWise One, offering full ACE functionality, is a major step forward for our business,” said Jane Pedersen Sorensen, CEVA’s vice president, customs brokerage and import services.

Forwarders in the U.S. have until the end of the month to adopt usage of ACE, which will be the primary system through which the trade community, including freight forwarders, must report imports and exports.

To comply with this deadline, CEVA selected Wise Tech Global and its CargoWise One program in 2014. With CargoWise One, CEVA said it was able to provide a more user-friendly and modern platform for users. The rollout also removed a number of legacy systems and synchronized all current IT interfaces and customer links. Sorensen said it was “a bit like tearing down an old home and rebuilding it without the benefits of all the historic plans.”

CargoWise One operates on cloud-based technology. Next for CEVA is the launch of its customer portal to allow importers a better tool to manage their business with CEVA, and achieve transparent customs clearance information.
