Aviation industry works to deliver supplies in catastrophes

Lufthansa Cargo is in close cooperation with a German relief coalition in order to facilitate fast delivery.

Representatives of Aktion Deutschland Hilft and Lufthansa signed an agreement at Frankfurt Airport.

“In natural catastrophes – be they devastating earthquakes, tsunamis or tornadoes – the paramount priority is to save human lives. Every hour counts, especially in organizing humanitarian logistics,” said Rudi Frick, chairman of Aktion Deutschland Hilft.

After the signing ceremony, an MD-11 freighter with the logo of the air alliance was unveiled. It will serve as the flying ambassador of the cooperation.

The Airbus Corporate Foundation and its partners Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen/Wings of Help, Turkish Airlines and Fraport AG transported 35 tonnes of relief supplies from Frankfurt Airport to Adana, Turkey on a Turkish Airlines A310-F freighter aircraft.

These supplies are for the Turkish Red Crescent and will be distributed to people in need in Syrian refugee camps near Adana. The donations were collected by Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen and include food, blankets, medicine and baby food and diapers.
