The horses were accompanied on the six-hour flight by three representatives from the Association for the Przewalski Horse, to ensure their safety and well being. The horses were given to Russia by the Association for the Przewalski Horse in France, where several generations have been living in the wild at the Tour du Valat Biology Station. The flight to Orenburg is the first step of the project to reintroduce the Przewalski’s in Russia’s Orenburgsky Reserve.
The trip was organized by Volga-Dnepr Airlines and AirBridge Cargo Airlines. The horses were transported in special stables, with ambient noise minimized, and the temperature in the cargo hold below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Following their safe arrival in Orenburg, the horses completed the final part of their journey by road.
