Beginning September 1, Korean Air will operate a B777-200ER on its daily Seoul-to-Vladivostok, Russia, route, an aircraft that will offer 10 more tonnes of cargo capacity than the B737-900ER Korean Air currently flies. The additional capacity will enable Korean Air to address the economic needs of Vladivostok, the chief city in Russia’s Primorsky Kvai region.
Fraport Cargo Services recently handled more than 40 tonnes of relief supplies for Syrian refugees in Turkey on an A300 chartered by Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen, with an assist from Chapman Freeborn. The plane, which was routed from Frankfurt to Adana, Turkey, was loaded down with tents, blankets, food and water.
According to a recently released press release by the Indian press information bureau, the government has reactivated the Civil Aviation Safety Advisory Council. The group will provide advice concerning aircraft operations and the airworthiness of planes currently in service, air navigation, training and certification. Members will also develop best practices and review the existing regulatory framework.
Etihad and Alitalia have launched a codeshare on direct flights between Rome and Abu Dhabi. The routing, which is set to begin December 1, will be operated four times a week by Alitalia on Airbus A330 aircraft. Etihad will also codeshare on separate Alitalia flights between routed from Rome to Venice and Zurich. Etihad officials signaled their intention to codeshare with Alitalia back in December 2009 and have since helped out on flights starting in Rome and ending in Milan, Frankfurt, Munich, Geneva and Athens.
Angel Case & Packing Co., a London-based packaging firm, has pleaded guilty to improperly packaging dangerous goods and has been fined 31,630, with court costs, by the Isleworth Crown Court. The shipment, which contained 51 chemical oxygen generators, was to be shipped from Heathrow to Italy, but was stopped by a DHL employee who inspected the package.
