The fuel surcharge for FedEx Ground and FedEx Express will increase on Nov. 2, representing the second time this year the company has raised the surcharge rate. The last time FedEx raised the surcharge was in February.
San Diego-based consultancy Shipware LLC said this will result in express and international fuel surcharge increases of 1.5 to 1.75 percent, with ground fuel surcharge increases of 0.5 to 1 percent. The increase will apply to all FedEx Ground and Express customers unless they have specific fuel-surcharge language written in their contract.
Shipware said the increases will vary depending on the prevailing price of jet and diesel fuel. For example, jet fuel, which is now about US$1.39 per gallon, will see the current 1 percent surcharge rise to 2.5 percent. For diesel fuel, currently at $2.49 a gallon, the surcharges will increase from 3.5 percent to 4.5 percent.
