The Indonesian island province of Bali has been added to Emirates SkyCargo’s Asia-Pacific network, joining Jakarta as the second gateway for the carrier in Indonesia. It is the 24th Asia-Pacific destination for Emirates, which will have the capacity to transport 294 tonnes of cargo capacity per week, in both directions, in the belly of a 777-300ER.
Emirates makes three frequencies per week to Jakarta, which it launched in 1992. Those early flights went via Singapore and Colombo, but now the carrier operates three nonstop flights daily from Jakarta to Dubai with 777s. In 2014, Emirates carried 16,000 tonnes of cargo on its three Jakarta-Dubai frequencies.
Exports from Bali will include marine products, such as tuna and other fresh fish, household goods, leather goods and handicrafts mainly heading for Europe. Other household goods, personal effects, perishables, pharmaceuticals and automotive parts will be imported to Bali, Surabaya and Balikpapan, also in Indonesia.
Asia-Pacific countries continue to be leaders among UAE trade partners in non-oil-related trade, accounting for 43 percent of trade volume in the first quarter of 2014, per Federal Customs Authority data.
Emirates also became the biggest air cargo carrier for exports from Ireland, year-to-date for 2015. It added a second twice daily flight to its Dublin-to-Dubai route last year, doubling its cargo capacity to 50,000 tonnes daily. Exports from Ireland mainly go to Australia, the Far East, India, the Middle East and Africa.
