“This state-of-the-art facility will significantly improve the handling capabilities of Abu Dhabi Cargo Company, as it allows our cargo customers the freedom to safely transport a wider variety of cargo including important items such as medical and biological samples,” a company spokesman said in a statement. “Abu Dhabi Airports Company [will] also work closely with the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, to guarantee that all of the perishable goods transported through ADCC align with safety and security regulations.”
During the first half of the year, cargo throughput at Abu Dhabi International Airport rose 10.4 percent, year-over-year, settling at a total tonnage of 231,733. Lufthansa announced a restructuring of its flights to Abu Dhabi in August. Starting this October, the carrier will fly directly from Abu Dhabi to Frankfurt without routing through Muscat, Oman.
