- Royal Brunei Airlines (pictured above) signed a worldwide cargo partnership agreement with Air Logistics Sdn Bhd, a joint venture company between BIACC Sdn Bhd and Air Logistics Networks Limited, a UK-based company and a subsidiary of Air Logistics Group, the world’s leading cargo General Sales and Service Agent Air Logistics Group. This partnership will be in full force in three months and will activate Air Logistics Group global network of 71 offices for the worldwide sales and marketing of RB cargo capacity.
- Flavio Renfer, 43, managing partner and principal of Covio S.A. Aviation Services, Zurich-Kloten, exclusive agent of Chapman Freeborn in Switzerland, died after a brief illness May 8. Renfer served the air cargo industry in various managerial functions for more than 18 years.
- NAV CANADA air traffic controllers are now handling flights at Edmonton International Airport from a new air traffic control tower, which crowns the airport’s new eight-story Central Tower. The tower incorporates environmentally friendly design elements that reflect environmental considerations. The airport is seeking Leadership in Energy and Environment Design Silver Certification for Central Tower.
- Etihad Cargo has unveiled its new loyalty program for freight forwarders called CargoConnect, a free mileage-earning program that rewards companies for every booking made with the airline. CargoConnect allows members to earn Etihad Guest Miles for net revenue paid on Etihad Cargo. Some of the benefits include being able to redeem miles for flights, upgrades or choose from more than 6,000 items in the Etihad Guest Rewards Shop. Customers can register at www.etihadcargo.com.
- China Airlines has presented GAC Taiwan with its Air Freight Award in recognition of its achievement of reaching US$1 million in revenue with the airline during 2012.
- Airbus, Air Canada and BioFuelNet Canada, hosted by McGill University, have formed a partnership to assess Canadian solutions for the production of sustainable alternative jet fuels with the long-term goal to supply Air Canada. The first assessment is expected by the end of 2013.
- IAG Cargo customers can now book services via the iagcargo.com web portal for the first time. The launch of e-booking marks a step forward in IAG Cargo’s goal of offering a full range of online services.
- Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. has been selected by Allied Air of Nigeria (pictured right) to provide two firm B737-400SF 11 pallet configuration conversions with an option for one additional conversion. The first aircraft is a high gross weight B737-400 that will undergo freighter modification in June at AEI’s Authorized Conversion Center, Flightstar Aircraft Services in Jacksonville, Fla.
- Boeing and Turkish Airlines finalized a firm order for 40 737 MAX 8s, 10 737 MAX 9s and 20 Next-Generation 737-800 jets, valued at $6.9 billion at list prices. The
order also includes options for an additional 25 737 MAX 8s and is the largest Boeing order in Turkish Airlines’ history. - Unisys Corporation announced that TravelSky, the leading provider of IT services for China’s air travel industry, has selected the Unisys air cargo and logistics management products to offer as hosted services to China’s airlines.
- BDP International’s Singapore office has been awarded the Secure Trade Partnership Plus accreditation by Singapore Customs. STP is a certification program administered by Singapore Customs that requires companies to meet robust security standards in their trading operations in order to protect global supply chains. STP Plus is the highest tier of the accreditation program.
- Parcel firm DPD plans to build a new parcel hub at Hinckley Commercial Park in the East Midlands, England. The company has appointed property group Goodman to develop a 330,000 square foot parcel hub on the site. The facility will create up to 1,000 new, permanent full-time jobs in the area when fully operational in 2015. DPD hopes to begin building work in September.
- Etihad Airways had its maiden flight to Amsterdam (pictured left), beginning the airline’s daily service to the Netherlands’ capital. Flight EY77, carrying the KL code of Dutch national carrier, KLM, departed from Abu Dhabi airport.
- Virgin Atlantic Cargo says it is delighted with the support it has gained from freight forwarders in Mumbai after resuming the route in October 2012 after a three-year absence.
