IAG Cargo will begin flying Sept. 1 to Montevideo, Uruguay, and Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Flights to the two new cities will grow IAG Cargo’s Latin American network to 16 destinations.
The routes will be served from IAG Cargo’s hub in Madrid by Iberia Airbus A330 and A340-300 aircraft. Each flight will deliver between 9.4 and 12.7 tonnes of capacity on the Madrid-Santo Domingo route, and between 6.5 and 11.7 tonnes of capacity on the Madrid-Montevideo route.
“One of IAG Cargo’s key differentiators is our ability to connect global businesses with key markets in Latin America,” Rodrigo Casal, vice president LATAM at IAG Cargo, said. “These new routes will build on this strength and provide important trade connections that will help support global economic growth. We see this service being particularly important for perishables producers looking to supply European countries and Asian manufacturers looking for routes into Latin America.”
The new routes will be operated five times a week in the case of Santo Domingo and four times a week for Montevideo. The services will provide support to businesses in a variety of sectors, but in particular perishables such as meat, fruits and vegetables, as well as leather goods, which form the bulk of shipments from Santo Domingo and Montevideo, respectively.
