All European horses in the Longines Hong Kong Masters equestrian competition are leaving from Liege Airport, an event partner.
More than 60 horses will fly from Liege to the second Hong Kong Masters, taking place Friday to Sunday.
“We have made the transport of live animals one of our specialties,” Luc Partoune, general manager of Liege Airport, said. “Last year, over 3,000 horses passed through our airport. Two aircraft belonging to TNT Airways and Emirates Sky Cargo will transport the horses under the best possible conditions to Hong Kong airport.”
A secure covered area of horseboxes has been specially erected at Liege near the warehouse belonging to Lachs, the company managing the handling.
The horses are from England, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden.
European Horse Services is coordinating the whole operation. All the necessary equipment, including jumps and track edges, is also loaded on board the aircraft. Veterinarians, grooms and trainers are accompanying the horses throughout their journey.
The horses will return on Feb. 25 via Liege Airport.
