According to a press release, the new service will operate by a Dubai-Singapore-Sydney-Hong Kong-Dubai routing and connect Sydney to more than 120 trade destinations worldwide.
Greg Johnson, Emirates’ cargo manager for Australia, said the additional route signals good news for Australian commerce. “The demand for a biweekly service is a good indication of Australia’s growing importance as a trade partner to major international markets,” he said in a statement.
Johnson also expects the new route to serve Emirates SkyCargo well. “With new markets also opening up as more points on our ever-expanding network come online, Emirates SkyCargo — now with greater levels of flexibility, capacity and convenience in Australia — is well positioned to support the development of the country’s export and imports industry,” he added.
Emirates is also expanding its presence in the North American market. So far this year, the carrier has launched daily passenger services from both Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to its Dubai hub.
Both routes will offer significant freight capacity, with oilfield equipment, electronic parts, computers, cell phones, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment comprising key exports on the Dallas-Dubai route. Fresh fruits and vegetables, electrical equipment and machinery, as well as medical equipment and aircraft parts, will constitute the main exports on the Seattle-Dubai service.
