In order to clear up any confusion about what can be shipped on various airlines, the Asia Airfreight Terminal at Hong Kong International Airport has established a dedicated dangerous goods/lithium battery screening counter to facilitate the checking of cargo. The counter is located on the second floor of Terminal 2, with dedicated parking for trucks, arranged at the second floor for ease of service.
With this arrangement, the security level for dangerous goods and lithium batteries has been streamlined for efficiency and time-saving benefits, since both the physical and document checks are done at this same location. An advance booking system was also launched, providing confirmation of prioritized, booked shipments within two hours.
Lithium batteries carried as freight has been an ongoing concern for quite some time, with several carriers banning them altogether, due to the fact that they can easily cause fires that aircraft fire systems are not equipped yet to extinguish.
