Rio de Janeiro International Airport’s RIOgaleão Cargo will become the first logistics terminal in Latin America to achieve IATA’s CEIV Pharma certificate, for establishing best practices in the transport and storage of temperature sensitive pharmaceuticals.
The airport will use the global program for training which includes technical audits. The program teaches best practices and operational standards which have been adopted internationally, which reduce risks and costs to the clients of the sector.
RIOgaleão cargo terminal is undergoing a US$6.5 renovation which started in August 2014. This includes the opening of a new cold chamber, which increased the storage capacity by three times what it was before. The new site of 11,000 square meters has two environments with different temperatures and is the only one in Brazil to count on a turret crane, providing a faster operation.
The CEIV Pharma certification will supports the logistics terminal in delivering quality and reliability in their services to the pharmaceutical industry, encouraging the growth of new businesses in this market, which is now growing more than US$8 billion per year, and is estimated to be reaching above US$10 billion by 2018.
