Transactions: Sats, Sinotrans sign collaboration agreement

Singapore-based gateway services provider Sats Group and China-based air logistics company Sinotrans Air Transportation Development Co. signed a memorandum of understanding on Sept. 10 agreeing to collaborate on ground and cargo handling projects across their respective networks. (Courtesy/Sats Group)[/caption] This includes setting up gateway hubs for Sinotrans in: Belgium; Indonesia; Malaysia; Saudi Arabia; and Singapore. The companies are also in talks for Sats to manage Sinotrans’ e-commerce hub in Hangzhou, China, which is expected to open in 2026, according to a Sept. 20 release from Sats Group. Sinotrans ranks fifth on Air Cargo Next ’s Power 25 list of top freight forwarders, moving 902,000 tonnes of air cargo in 2023. RXO pays UPS more than $1B for Coyote Logistics Transportation solutions company RXO completed its acquisition of Coyote Logistics from UPS for more than $1 billion this month. RXO is now the third-largest provider of brokered transportation in North America, according to a Sept. 16 release from the company. RXO now offers increased network density and additional power lanes. “This acquisition enables us to provide customers with even more capacity,” RXO Chief Executive Drew Wilkerson said in the release. “Our larger scale will provide carriers with access to more freight.” Coyote Logistics was founded in 2006 and acquired by UPS in 2015. Cathay Cargo, NorthLink sign ANC cargo terminal agreement Cathay Cargo signed an agreement with NorthLink Aviation this month to use NorthLink’s air cargo terminal and aircraft stands at Alaska’s Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC), beginning October 2025. (Courtesy/Cathay Cargo)[/caption] ANC serves as a vital technical stop for Cathay Cargo’s transpacific Boeing 747F, according to a Sept. 19 release from Cathay. Cathay ranks 13th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list of top cargo carriers, flying 5.8 billion cargo tonne kilometers (CTK) in 2022. ANC ranks third on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, with throughput of 3.5 million tonnes of cargo in 2022. The deal will give Cathay Cargo access to: Cargo terminal capacity with customs clearance for cargo entering the United States; 11 power-through hardstands allowing aircraft to park and depart without ground-tug assistance; and Four push-back hardstands. Each stand offers dual-hydrant fueling systems, lighting towers safety and ground-power systems using renewable energy, according to the release. There will also be infrastructure to support the recovery and recycling of de-icing fluid, preventing it from entering the waters of Cook Inlet. Cathay Cargo currently uses stands provided by the airport authority and shared with other carriers. “Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport has been a cornerstone in Cathay Cargo’s successful transpacific operations over many decades, serving as a stopover for our freighters en route to and from the Americas,” Cathay Cargo Director Tom Owen said in the release. “Leveraging NorthLink’s privately developed stands through this long-term agreement helps Cathay Cargo address the challenges posed by severe winter storms by ensuring dedicated gate access is available and offering a dependable supply of hardstand parking spaces.” Additionally, Cathay Cargo extended its contract with Menzies Aviation to provide cargo and freighter ramp services for an additional five years at all locations served by the carrier in Australia and New Zealand, according to a Sept. 20 release. Etihad Cargo, SF Airlines to form JV to strengthen UAE-China trade Etihad Cargo , the cargo and logistics arm of Etihad Airways , and SF Airlines , a subsidiary of SF Holding , announced a project to establish a joint venture to promote economic and trade cooperation in logistics between the United Arab Emirates and China. (Courtesy/Etihad Cargo)[/caption] The airlines will combine “their strengths to offer a unified logistics solution with a focus on increasing capacity, improving transit times and expanding connectivity to new destinations,” according to a Sept. 19 release from Etihad Cargo. Representatives from the airlines met Sept. 18 at SF Airlines’ headquarters in Shenzhen, China, to formalize their intention to establish the joint venture. “By aligning our strengths, Etihad Airways and SF Airlines are enhancing operations and contributing to the economic growth and diversification of Abu Dhabi, Ezhou and Shenzhen,” Etihad Airways CEO Antonoaldo Neves said in the release. “This partnership will be pivotal in positioning the UAE as a key player in global logistics, benefiting both our nations and the broader market.” The next phase of this joint venture will involve finalizing the scope of the collaboration and signing a definitive agreement. Etihad ranks 30 on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list, flying 2.9 billion CTKs in 2022. SF Airlines ranks 38th on the Freight 50 list, flying 1.7 billion CTKs. AFKLMP extends North American contracts with WFS Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a member of Sats Group, renewed multiyear contracts with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP) at major airport gateways in North America, according to a Sept. 19 release. (Courtesy/Worldwide Flight Services)[/caption] WFS will continue to provide passenger, baggage and cargo handling for AFKLMP at: Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), which ranks 12th on the top 50 cargo airports list; Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), which ranks 34th; Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), which is not on the list; Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which ranks ninth; Miami International Airport (MIA), which ranks eighth; New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), which ranks 22nd; and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), which is not on the list. Listed separately, Air France ranks 22nd on the Freight 50 list, flying 3.5 billion CTKs in 2022; KLM ranks 32nd, flying 2.4 billion CTKs; and Martinair ranks 50th, flying 977 million CTKs.
