Japan Airlines and Garuda Indonesia have signed a new codeshare agreement, beginning on Oct. 28. The airlines will share capacity on routes in their respective domestic networks, on select routes between Japan and Indonesia and on certain trans-Pacific routes operated by Japan Airlines.
President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia, Pahala Mansury, called Japan one of the most important markets for Indonesia, adding that the cooperation will not only boost trade between the two Asian nations, but also forward Garuda Indonesia’s goal to extend its network into the U.S.
A statement from the carriers said they aim to “expand the applicable routes in the near future,” and will continue to develop the partnership, which will soon include a “joint business structure in their respective market[s].”
