Kenya Airways Cargo has selected Aeronautical Engineers Inc. to provide two firm B737-300SF 10 Pallet Configuration conversions, with options for two additional conversions to be started in 2013. AEI’s Robert Convey spoke out about this opportunity, stating that “the awarding of four 737-300SF conversions by Kenya Airways is further proof that the narrow-body freighter fleet on the African continent is continuing to move into more modern and efficient aircraft.” AEI will complete the conversions in Shanghai.
Starting December 1, Worldwide Flight Services will provide cargo-handling services for British Airways World Cargo at London’s Gatwick Airport. In support of the agreement, WFS has acquired an additional warehousing facility at Gatwick, a 30,000-square-foot freight center that will be dedicated to the BAWC operation.
Singapore Airlines is taking a 10-percent stake in partner carrier Virgin Australia for Aus$105.3 million. The sales announcement came on the same day Virgin Australia revealed that it will take a 60-percent stake in low-cost carrier Tiger Australia for Aus$35 million, as well as jointly invest up to Aus$62.5 million to expand Tiger’s fleet.
Swissport International has inked cargo-handling deals with Lufthansa and Finnair at Copenhagen Airport, with both services launching on December 1. Under the new contracts, Swissport will handle freight on Lufthansa’s flights to and from Copenhagen, as well as the carrier’s road-feeder services between Copenhagen and its Frankfurt Airport hub. The company will perform similar services on Finnair’s narrow-body flights at Copenhagen Airport, as well as its road-feeder services to and from Copenhagen.
