AAR to sell Cloud Cap Technology systems in distribution agreement

Aviation services company AAR Corp. has signed a distribution agreement with Cloud Cap Technology for flight management and surveillance systems. Under the agreement signed in March, AAR will stock, promote and sell Cloud Cap’s TASE imaging payload and Piccolo flight management systems for manned and unmanned aircraft. Customers are expected to include unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) manufacturers, airframers, and civil and government operators, according to AAR. Cloud Cap is a part of Collins Aerospace Mission Systems, which is a subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies. “We look forward to working with AAR to grow our global reach for TASE and Piccolo,” said Guy Bowie , general manager for TASE and Piccolo at Collins, in a release. “The AAR team brings an increased capability that will serve our customers well.” Aviation services at Chicago-based AAR, a global aerospace and defense aftermarket solutions company, include parts supply; original equipment manufacturer (OEM) solutions; integrated solutions; and maintenance, repair and overhaul services. Its expeditionary services include mobility systems operations. Imaging, autopilot tech new to AAR Piccolo flight management systems provide autopilot, navigation and ground control solutions for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), while TASE delivers full-motion video with multiple sensors for real-time intelligence gathering, according to Darren Spiegel , vice president and general manager at AAR. “Cloud Cap is the field-tested market leader with the TASE and Piccolo systems,” Spiegel said in a release. “AAR is excited to broaden our reach in the UAS market with products that are integral and adaptable to a wide range of surveillance and tactical missions.” OEMs have seen supply chain issues in the past few years, according to Spiegel, who added that “many of the components that have caused delays are electronic in nature.” He expects the Cloud Cap Technology programs to improve supply chain operations for AAR customers. “We have been selling electronics to many of the UAS manufacturers for some time, but this agreement steps up AAR’s technological offering in the UAS market,” Spiegel told Air Cargo Next. “UAS imaging and autopilot offerings are new to AAR, but the growth-focused sale processes we have built for our OEM partners and customers are transferrable to Collins and the UAS customer base.” Spiegel is confident these technologies, offered to AAR’s civil and military clients, will streamline operations and make them safer. “Big picture, the use of unmanned autonomous systems for surveillance saves lives,” Spiegel said. “On a more focused note, UAVs are evolving at a rapid pace, and Collins is at the forefront of this changing landscape. For instance, many UAVs in use now use a catapult launcher and land into a big net. This requires infrastructure to transport and is often hard on the payload — which, ironically, includes the TASE. “For instance, the Piccolo autopilot Elevate model has evolved to manage the complex equation [for] managing the transition of vertical takeoff and landing to forward flight, eliminating the infrastructure need, and aiding in developing UAS aircraft that are more practical and easier to use in both civilian and defense applications.”
