In response to Ireland’s growing “bio boom,” DHL Supply Chain opened a 3,700-square-meter, pharmaceutical-grade facility today on the island nation. Located near the Dublin Airport, the facility is the 43rd Life Sciences Center of Excellence in DHL’s global pharmaceutical supply chain network.
The temperature-controlled, end-to-end supply chain services include storage, pick-and-pack services, and inventory control.
The site features segregated storage environments including: ambient (1525°C); chill (2-8°C); and a blast-and-holding freezer capable of temperatures of -20°C.
The facility positions DHL at the center of Ireland’s pharma business, which exports more than €45 billion in life sciences products annually, according to Enterprise Ireland. With fast connectivity to European markets by road, air and sea, DHL said that “nine out of ten of the top global pharmaceutical companies and nine out of the top ten biopharmaceutical companies have already chosen Ireland as their manufacturing base.”
