DHL Express invests in new e-commerce facility at Minneapolis-St. Paul

DHL Express invested US$1.6 million on its operations in Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) to relocate to a larger facility, in response to increased e-commerce demand.

Located on the airport ramp, the facility will enable the company to offer its customers earlier deliveries and later pickup cutoff times. It will offer more than 33,000 square feet of space for facility operations, including70 vehicles at a time, and will employ 100 personnel.

Nemer Abohasen, vice president and general manager for DHL Express’ Midwest U.S. region, said the changes will appeal to importers and exporters, with “greater convenience for their international shipping needs.”

DHL Express operates nearby hubs in the Midwest region, with international hubs in Chicago (ORD) and Cincinnati (CVG), so its investment in Minneapolis indicates that the integrator sees the region as an area of continued growth.

While incoming flights are likely comprised mainly of e-commerce shipments, regional industries create outbound demand for shipments of medical, retail, agriculture and packaged goods, as well as cargo related to the energy and high-tech sectors.
