Envirotainer expands testing capabilities for extreme weather

Stockholm-based Envirotainer has enhanced its testing capabilities by adding three chambers to its testing facility in Rosersberg, Sweden, to enable a wider test range of temperatures, humidity and other factors. With this month’s additions, the Rosersberg facility has six advanced chambers, according to a release from the company, including: Four medium-sized chambers that handle temperatures from minus 40 C to 60 C; One large chamber that handles temperatures from minus 30 C to 60 C; and One small chamber for conditions from minus 70 C to 120 C. “The climate chambers at Envirotainer are designed to replicate specific temperature and humidity conditions for a variety of testing purposes,” Chief Commercial Officer Delphine Perridy Boile told Air Cargo Next . “The large chamber has a volume of 105 cubic meters, accommodating two Envirotainer RAP containers. “The four medium chambers, each with a volume of 58 cubic meters and capable of fitting one RAP container, offer a ... humidity range from 0% to 98%,” she said. “The small chamber, with a volume of 2.7 cubic meters, is particularly versatile, providing a temperature range from minus 70 C to 120 C and a humidity range from 0% to 98%.” Electromagnetic compatibility Envirotainer has also enhanced its electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) chamber to ensure containers meet strict EMC standards. “EMC ensures that electronic products do not emit electromagnetic interference that can disrupt other electronic devices and systems,” Perridy Boile said. “ Meeting EMC standards is essential for compliance with flight industry standards and CE marking.” CE, or Conformite Europeenne, marking indicates a product meets the European Union ’s health, safety and environmental requirements. “At Envirotainer, the EMC chamber is a key investment to fulfill regulatory requirements and enhance testing capabilities,” Perridy Boile said. “ Currently, it tests emissions below 1 gigahertz, but future investments will expand this to cover emissions between 1 and 6 gigahertz.” Envirotainer did not provide a timeline for the completion of its EMC chamber enhancements. “The EMC chamber significantly shortens lead times and testing durations by eliminating the need for external facilities, improves measurement accuracy and reduces noise in test result diagrams,” Perridy Boile said. “This capability is particularly important with the advent of new regulations such as the radio equipment directive and battery legislation, ensuring that containers meet the highest standards without relying on external facilities.” The European Union’s radio equipment directive sets requirements for safety and health, EMC, and efficient use of the radio spectrum in Europe. Envirotainer also plans to assess how radiation affects packaging . “The future plan to assess electromagnetic radiation effects is driven by new regulations that require thorough testing to ensure that products do not emit harmful levels of electromagnetic radiation,” Perridy Boile said. “By investing in advanced EMC testing capabilities, Envirotainer will be able to perform these tests in-house, which helps in managing the design and testing process more efficiently, she said. “This ultimately means that solutions can be developed and validated more quickly, enabling patients to receive much-needed medication without delays.” Envirotainer is not experiencing issues related to radiation, but “is taking proactive steps to address potential challenges,” Perridy Boile said.
