CharterSync to enhance charter e-booking solution

U.K.-based digital charter brokerage CharterSync aims to enhance its digital booking platform for airfreight charters over the next six months through regional expansion and streamlined processes. Founded in 2016, CharterSync offers an airfreight charter platform that enables freight forwarders and aircraft operators to book immediate, just-in-time critical charters, Director and co-founder Simon Watson told Air Cargo World . The company’s platform initially went live in 2019 and has since completed more than 3,000 charters. [caption id="attachment_57065732" align="alignright" width="550"] Photo/LHR[/caption] The company currently offers charter management as well as post-data analysis, but there’s more to come, Watson said. He further noted that while the new system recently launched, CharterSync is currently running a trial period with a select number of clients. "There’s some really exciting things we’ll be doing in the next six months,” Watson said. “Our system is a spot-requesting quote system, so it requires a manual input — but there’s some things that we’re going to do to really speed that up to make that almost instant.” Watson noted that CharterSync is currently focusing on clients that need a service element or helping hand when it comes to using the system, versus those clients who are already familiar with the process. “We realized that these two different types of clients needed two different solutions or two different offerings [and] our system was able to do one but not the other,” Watson said. “So what we’ve been doing is we’ve refined that system to target that one use case with that one type of client. So the client who needs advice and assistance can send through a request to us, our team will help manage that request, it will go out to all of the market on our system, and they will be able to offer all of the options that come back to the client, advising on the best option available.” CharterSync is planning to launch a separate entity and system for the type of client that has established relationships with airlines and their partner network, Watson added. Expansion planned for US, Europe During the past year, the company also began targeting clients outside its current geographic market, Watson said. “We are focusing on North America and the American market [for our] next growth area,” he said. “We do have an office in London, and we may be looking at somewhere in Western Europe and then the U.S. as well.” Charters have played an important role in navigating the capacity constraints spurred by the pandemic, and industry stakeholders have been both partnering and launching more robust charter network. Kuehne+Nagel, DHL Supply Chain and Global Forwarding and DSV are among the forwarders that have bolstered their charter networks over the past few years. Digital booking has especially been gaining traction among industry stakeholders over the past few years, with the rate of digital bookings made on Freightos’ WebCargo platform in Q1 climbing nearly 351% year over year.
