Digital Pulse: PACTL rolls out Hermes 5 CMS at 4 facilities

Cargo terminal operator Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co. (PACTL) has rolled out the Hermes 5 cargo management system at four cargo terminals. [caption id="attachment_57145060" align="alignright" width="300"] (Courtesy/PACTL)[/caption] The Hermes 5 system, developed by Hermes Logistics Technologies , now is used at three cargo terminals at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and one at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). PVG ranks fourth on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, with throughput of 3.1 million tonnes of cargo in 2022. PACTL handles up to 2 million tonnes of cargo per year, according to a Sept. 12 release from Hermes. “This was an upgrade, but on a massive scale, that required comprehensive discovery work and preparation to ensure the switchover was both simultaneous and short, and downtime was reduced as much as possible,” Hermes Chief Executive Yuval Baruch said in the release. “A key element of the project was the integration of Hermes 5 with other technology partners working with PACTL, through our standard and bespoke APIs,” he said. “These enable full integration with other solutions, so data can be shared and operational efficiencies gained.” The upgrade involved a gap analysis, database optimization and training, according to the release. The cargo management system offers Cargo iQ messaging services, and PACTL opted for a localized deployment to maximize data security, the release stated. Other companies that recently upgraded operations to Hermes 5 include Georgi Handling , Etihad Airport Services Cargo , CACC Cargolinx , Groundforce Portugal and dnata . Aerios launches Carrier App, its 1st product Air cargo charter software company Aerios , a subsidiary of CargoTech , released its first product this month: the Carrier App. The management system aims to help charter cargo carriers maximize efficiency and revenue, while providing data and insights, according to a Sept. 9 release. The app was built in conjunction with several charter cargo carriers following extensive trials and research workshops, Aerios founder and CEO Simon Watson said in the release. The app integrates with flight operations, customer relationship management systems and communication systems to create a single digital workflow, the release stated. It also provides access to aggregated market trends and data. Dnata transitions UAE fleet to biodiesel Dubai-based cargo handler dnata has transitioned all of its non-electric airside vehicles and ground support equipment to a biodiesel blend in the United Arab Emirates. [caption id="attachment_57145061" align="alignright" width="300"] (Courtesy/dnata)[/caption] The transition, done in partnership with Dubai Airports and the Emirates National Oil Company Group , is projected to cut CO2-equivalent emissions by more than 3,500 tonnes annually over the life cycle of fuel consumed by dnata’s fleet, according to a Sept. 5 release. This is equivalent to more than 21 million kilometers driven by an average diesel-powered car. The implementation, in 2,500 vehicles, was gradually rolled out across dnata’s operations at the two Dubai airports, Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), also known as Dubai World Central. DXB ranks 18th on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, with throughput of 1.7 million tonnes of cargo in 2022. “While sectorwide solutions [for decarbonization] are crucial, airports must also score quick wins on the ground,” Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said in the release.
