People: Executives take new roles in air cargo

February saw several key appointments and promotions within the air cargo industry. Brun to drive cargo growth at Etihad [caption id="attachment_57140616" align="alignright" width="192"] Stanislas Brun[/caption] Stanislas Brun was appointed vice president of cargo at Etihad Airways last month. He will oversee Etihad Cargo ’s global commercial operations, including scheduled and charter flights, revenue management and network planning, according to a release from the carrier. For cargo management, Brun replaces Martin Drew , former senior vice president of global sales, marketing, brand and cargo. Drew is now chief strategy and transformation officer at Atlas Air Worldwide . “Etihad Cargo will continue to play a crucial role in Etihad Airways’ ability to achieve [our] ambitious growth plans,” Etihad Airways Chief Operating Officer Mohammad Al Bulooki said in the release. “I have every confidence that the passion and expertise Stanislas brings to this role will enable Etihad Cargo to continue the impressive growth trajectory it has achieved in recent years.” Brun joins Etihad Cargo from Geodis , where he served as senior vice president global airfreight and oversaw the company’s global air cargo operations. Sorlini to helm Abu Dhabi Airports Abu Dhabi Airports , which operates Abu Dhabi’s five commercial airports, appointed Elena Sorlini as managing director and chief executive officer. Sorlini transitioned into the role permanently in early February after serving in an interim capacity since June 2023, according to a release from Abu Dhabi Airports. Her predecessor was Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri. [caption id="attachment_57140610" align="alignright" width="243"] Elena Sorlini[/caption] Sorlini has more than 20 years of experience in the aviation industry, previously serving as executive director of transport and logistics at investment and holding company ADQ , vice president of group corporate strategy at Oman Aviation Group , strategy director at Copenhagen Airports and vice president at Macquarie Airports . She is a member of the boards at Etihad Airways, Abu Dhabi Aviation and ADQ Aviation and Aerospace Services . “I remain committed to unlocking the full growth potential of Abu Dhabi’s tourism and trade industry,” Sorlini said in the release. “I look forward to contributing to the recognition of Abu Dhabi International Airport [AUH] as one of the best airports in the world.” Maersk Air Cargo finds new CEO [caption id="attachment_57140611" align="alignright" width="219"] Lars Jordahn[/caption] Maersk Air Cargo has appointed Lars Jordahn as global head, effective March 1. He took over from Peter Corfitsen , who moved to another role at Maersk. Jordahn most recently was chief executive of Swedish freighter lessor and operator West Atlantic and has served as managing director global airlines for TNT Airways , managing director of Swedish airline Amapola Flyg and managing director of DHL Express Sweden , according to a release from Maersk. Aurrigo expands aviation ops with Girdwood’s appointment [caption id="attachment_57140612" align="alignright" width="205"] Lewis Girdwood[/caption] Coventry, U.K.-based Aurrigo , which creates and supplies autonomous vehicles, named Lewis Girdwood executive director of aviation technology. Girdwood, former head of financial planning and analysis at EasyJet and chief financial officer of IAG Cargo , will be responsible for rolling out the company’s third-generation Auto-DollyTug, an electric, autonomous vehicle that combines the utility of a baggage tractor with the unit load device-carrying capability of an airport dolly, according to a release from the company. “Autonomous technology is constantly being spoken about, but there are few companies who are at the stage where they are deploying it in a real-world environment,” Girdwood said in the release. “This is a really exciting time for Aurrigo, with recent partnerships and contracts giving us real momentum in the aviation sector, and we expect more to follow.” Sirianni to head sales for the Americas at Menzies [caption id="attachment_57140615" align="alignright" width="229"] Scott Sirianni[/caption] Menzies Aviation last week appointed Scott Sirianni as vice president of sales for the Americas. Sirianni most recently served as director of multinational accounts at American Airlines , where he had several roles over 11 years. “Scott’s experience, strategic thinking and proven track record make him the ideal candidate to lead our growth plans and we have no doubt he will contribute significantly to our success,” John Redmond , executive vice president for the Americas region at Menzies, said in a company release. Milner to head ops for Wing [caption id="attachment_57140614" align="alignright" width="183"] Nathaniel Milner[/caption] Nathaniel Milner joined Wing , a drone delivery company operated by Alphabet , last month as head of operations, a role in which he will be responsible for building out Wing’s drone delivery processes. Wing has partnered with Walmart to deliver goods in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Milner began his delivery career by launching a restaurant and grocery delivery startup 20 years ago and has since worked with numerous delivery and technology companies, according to a company release. “Having the opportunity to work alongside leading aviation and technology experts to build a hyper scale model in last-mile delivery for key retailers and beyond is a formula for success and a dream to be involved in,” Milner said in the release. New CEOs for IAG’s Iberia, Vueling [caption id="attachment_57140609" align="alignright" width="181"] Carolina Martinoli[/caption] [caption id="attachment_57140613" align="alignright" width="182"] Marco Sansavini[/caption] International Airlines Group (IAG) last week announced changes to its management team regarding its airline subsidiaries. Beginning in April: Marco Sansavini will become CEO and chair of Iberia , moving from his role as CEO of Vueling ; Fernando Candela , who was appointed interim CEO of Iberia in May, will step down from that role and continue as CEO of Level ; and Carolina Martinoli will become CEO and chair of Vueling, moving from her role as IAG chief people, corporate affairs and sustainability officer. Sansavini previously served as chief commercial officer at Iberia, chief strategy officer at Alitalia and vice president of global business at Air France-KLM . Martinoli previously served as brand and customer experience director at British Airways and chief customs officer at Iberia. Kuehn becomes managing director at Unsworth [caption id="attachment_57140617" align="alignright" width="177"] Thomas Kuehn[/caption] U.K.-based freight forwarder Unsworth Group appointed Thomas Kuehn managing director last month. Kuehn’s predecessor, Richard Hogg , became chief executive, according to a release from the company. With more than 30 years of experience in freight forwarding, Kuehn previously served as managing director at World Transport Agency , development and solutions director at Kuehne+Nagel and logistics manager at DB Schenker . “Thomas’ vision aligns seamlessly with our commitment to innovation, client satisfaction and promoting a culture of continuous improvement,” Hogg said in the release.
