People: New leadership within air cargo

May saw several promotions and hirings at key companies in the air cargo industry. Diesel named managing director at Virgin Atlantic Cargo [caption id="attachment_57143500" align="alignright" width="275"] Nick Diesel[/caption] Virgin Atlantic Cargo has named Nick Diesel managing director, effective Aug. 4. He will succeed Phil Wardlaw , who has held the role since 2021 and has been with Virgin Atlantic for more than 20 years. Diesel has worked at Virgin Atlantic for nine years, most recently as vice president for financial planning. He has also served as head of business intelligence and reporting and interim head of corporate strategy. Prior to that, he worked as a financial consultant for nearly three years at Deloitte . Until Diesel takes the role in August, Mark Faulkner , head of cargo commercial, is serving as interim managing director, effective June 3, according to the release. Virgin Atlantic Airways ranks 45th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list of top cargo carriers, flying 1.2 billion cargo tonne kilometers (CTK) in 2022. Dnata names Su Yin managing director in Singapore Airport services provider dnata appointed Neo Su Yin as managing director of its Singapore airport operations, according to a May 6 news release. [caption id="attachment_57143499" align="alignright" width="240"] Neo Su Yin[/caption] In this role, Su Yin will oversee dnata’s ground handling and cargo operations at Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), where she will manage a team of more than 1,500 employees serving more than 50 carriers, according to the release. SIN ranks 16th on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, with a throughput of 1.9 million tonnes of cargo in 2022. Su Yin had been chief executive at e-commerce and logistics provider Singapore Post since November 2021. She previously was general manager of ground operations and customer service at SIN. Hourcade takes leadership role at SATS [caption id="attachment_69966" align="alignright" width="193"] Celine Hourcade[/caption] Celine Hourcade was appointed vice president and global head of ESG/sustainability for SATS , beginning her role in May. Hourcade founded air cargo consultancy Change Horizon in 2019, serving as its managing director. She co-founded Women in Aviation and Logistics , a nonprofit organization advocating for equitable opportunities for women in the aviation industry. She is the organization’s president. Hourcade previously worked for TIACA on sustainability projects and she spent more than 13 years at IATA , serving as head of cargo transformation for her last three years there. “With a commitment to driving meaningful and positive change, I look forward to contributing to SATS’ sustainable growth and success and working with SATS community of over 220 locations in 27 countries,” Hourcade wrote in a LinkedIn post. Stoll to leave Swiss after 11 years [caption id="attachment_57143497" align="alignright" width="275"] Lorenzo Stoll[/caption] Lorenzo Stoll , head of cargo at Swiss International Air Lines , will leave the company at the end of July after 11 years, according to a recent release from the company. Stoll, who heads Swiss’ Swiss WorldCargo division, is leaving to become CEO of a Switzerland-based health care company. As head of cargo, Stoll has guided Swiss’ airfreight division through many challenges, including the pandemic, according to the release. Stoll joined Swiss in 2013, initially as the company’s head of western Switzerland. Swiss ranks 43rd on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list, flying 1.3 billion CTKs in 2022. Chapman Freeborn grows leadership in Italy, Finland, Poland [caption id="attachment_57143512" align="alignright" width="300"] From left, Rocco Cellucci, Annika Eerola and Patricia Piecuch[/caption] Freight forwarder and charter company Chapman Freeborn has grown its European senior management team Europe with the May appointments of: Rocco Cellucci to head sales in Italy; Annika Eerola to head sales in Finland; and Patricia Piecuch to head sales in Poland. All three will focus on the expansion of Chapman Freeborn ’s passenger, commercial and private jet service portfolio, according to a May 16 release from the company. With more than 34 years of experience in the Italian aviation industry, Cellucci has held positions at Alitalia and Eurofly . Eerola, a pilot, has more than 20 years of experience in the Finnish aviation market, having held positions at The Aviation Factory and Nordique . Piecuch has worked in the Polish aviation industry for 12 years, holding positions with SprintAir and Flyjet .
