People: Korfiatis new Oman Air CEO, other air cargo execs rise

Con Korfiatis took the helm as Oman Air ’s chief executive officer in May. He replaced Nasser Al Salmi , the acting CEO since August 2023. [caption id="attachment_57143493" align="alignright" width="200"] Con Korfiatis[/caption] With more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry, Korfiatis most recently served as founding CEO of flyadeal , a low-cost airline subsidiary of Saudia for more than seven years. He has also served as vice president of low-cost airline Citilink , a subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia ; CEO of Viva Macau Airlines ; head of strategy at Qantas ; and CEO of Jetstar Asia . In his new role, Korfiatis is expected to improve the carrier’s financial position, according to a May 2 release from Oman Air. In March, Oman Air announced that it increased 2023 revenues by 30% compared with 2022 and reduced losses 36% year over year. Oman Air launched its first freighter service between Muscat International Airport (MCT) in Oman and GMR Hyderabad International Airport (HYD) in India in December 2023. Good named APAC president at Seko [caption id="attachment_57143502" align="alignright" width="152"] Paul Good[/caption] Freight forwarder Seko Logistics has named Paul Good as president of its Asia-Pacific division. Good, who joined the company in 2022, will maintain his role as managing director in Australia while adding APAC regional responsibilities to his plate, according to a May 14 release from Seko . He will split his time between his home base in Australia and Seko’s Hong Kong and China operations. Good has more than 25 years of experience in freight forwarding and logistics, holding leadership positions at Kuehne+Nagel and Agility before joining Seko. ACI World appoints two VPs [caption id="attachment_57143494" align="alignright" width="180"] Darryl Dowd[/caption] [caption id="attachment_57143503" align="alignright" width="188"] Pierre Charbonneau[/caption] Airports Council International (ACI) World has appointed two vice presidents: Pierre Charbonneau as vice president of events and commercial services, a new position at the company; and Darryl Dowd as vice president for safety, security and operations, replacing Thomas Romig , who held the position for four years. With more than 35 years of experience, Charbonneau directed service delivery and regulatory compliance at Montreal’s Trudeau (YUL) and Mirabel (YMX) international airports with Aeroports de Montreal airport authority, led passenger initiatives at IATA from 2015 to 2021 and began his career at Air Canada in 1988, according to a May 13 release from ACI. Dowd, who has more than 20 years of experience, recently served as chief operation officer at Southport Aerospace Centre (YPG) in Manitoba, where he led efforts to achieve net zero by 2035 and modernized its IT and cybersecurity systems, according to the release. He also held key roles at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority and Winnipeg Airports Authority . AIT Worldwide makes three appointments [caption id="attachment_57143511" align="alignright" width="300"] From left, Andrew Poll, Daniel Estrada and Merrill Gad[/caption] Freight forwarder AIT Worldwide Logistics made three appointments to leadership roles in May: Andrew Poll as vice president of North America sales; Daniel Estrada as vice president of Latin America sales; and Merrill Gad as vice president of the total rewards program. Poll will oversee the financial growth and stability at ATI in North America, while Estrada will look to expand the company’s reach in Latin America, according to a May 16 release from AIT. Poll, who has been at AIT for more than seven years, was previously director of sales for the company’s U.S. central region. Estrada, who joined AIT in 2018, was sales director for Mexico and along the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas, according to his LinkedIn . Gad will focus on further integrating the company’s human resources, known as its total rewards strategy, across all networks within the company. He joined AIT in 2021 as senior director of total rewards. Rhenus appoints co-VPs to lead global operations [caption id="attachment_57143492" align="alignright" width="300"] Colin D'Abreo, left, and Moritz Becker[/caption] Holzwickede, Germany-based logistics firm Rhenus Group has appointed Moritz Becker and Colin D’Abreo as co-vice president directors, according to a May 17 release. They will replace Carst e n Schroter , who held the position until March. Becker will lead operations in Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and Southeast Asia and the Pacific, according to the release. In this role, he will work to strengthen the company’s presence in renewables and turnkey solutions for industrial projects. Becker joined Rhenus is 2017 as head of projects in Germany, advancing to managing director of project logistics for Germany and ultimately managing director of Rhenus Offshore Logistics Germany last year. D’Abreo will helm operations in the Americas, India, China, the Middle East and Africa. In this role, he will work to expand Rhenus’ offshore services in Eastern Canada and grow services in Latin America, particularly in the mining and solar industries. D’Abreo began his logistics career more than 30 years ago at KOG Transport , which was acquired by Rhenus in 2015. At KOG, he served as executive vice president and president. He was most recently president of Rhenus Projects Logistics in the United States.
