People: Elbers appointed chair of IATA board of governors

Pieter Elbers , chief executive of IndiGo , became chairperson of the IATA board of Governors in early June, with his one-year term beginning at the conclusion of the 80th IATA annual general meeting in Dubai on June 3. [caption id="attachment_57144034" align="alignright" width="199"] Pieter Elbers[/caption] Elbers, the 82nd chairperson of the board, also served on the board between 2016 and 2022, when he was president and CEO of KLM . He succeeds RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo , who will continue to serve on the board. “It is imperative that we persist in our commitment towards a more diverse, equitable and inclusive, and also more sustainable aviation industry,” Elbers said in a release from IATA . Elbers has more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry and has been CEO of IndiGo since September 2022. Before joining IndiGo, he served for eight years as president and CEO of KLM. He started his career at KLM in 1992 as manager for aircraft loading and has held executive positions with KLM in the Netherlands, Japan, Greece and Italy, according to the release. IATA also announced Luis Gallego Martin , CEO of International Airlines Group , will serve as chairperson when Elbers’ term ends in June 2025. Summers to oversee mainland Europe, central Asia at ACS Air Charter Service (ACS) appointed Andrew Summers regional director for its mainland European offices. Summers will be responsible for helping the company’s cargo, private jets and group travel operations grow across Europe. He will remain regional director of Central Asia through ACS’ Kazakhstan office, according to a June 5 release from ACS. [caption id="attachment_57144019" align="alignright" width="264"] Andrew Summers[/caption] Summers has been with ACS for 18 years, beginning his career in the United Kingdom before moving to the Middle East in 2014, according to the release. He will return to the company’s U.K. headquarters in London with this promotion. “A dedicated focus on the continent is essential to our growth plans, [as mainland Europe is] a region that makes up 15% of the global economy,” ACS Chairperson Chris Leach said in the release. Deugro appoints Stehle as CCO [caption id="attachment_57144382" align="alignright" width="146"] Dominik Stehle[/caption] Logistics company deugro appointed Dominik Stehle chief commercial officer, a role in which he will work to ensure a unified strategy across the company’s commercial operations. This marks a return to deugro for Stehle, where he worked for nearly a decade before leaving for executive positions in the heavy-lift shipping industry, according to a July 1 release from deugro. He most recently served as CCO of United Heavy Lift . Cool Chain Association names Chetty treasurer The Cool Chain Association (CCA) appointed Vijan Chetty as treasurer, and Natalie Niers and Ian Buck as board members. [caption id="attachment_57144037" align="alignright" width="300"] From left are Vijan Chetty, Natalie Niers and Ian Buck.[/caption] Chetty, who is general manager of South Africa’s Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB), has more than 25 years of experience working in the temperature-controlled supply chain, according to a June 6 release from the CCA. He was elected to the CCA board in 2018 and led the initiative for a memorandum of understanding between the PPECB and the CCA, resulting in the creation of a perishables best practice video. Chetty replaced former treasurer Miguel Rodriguez , who stepped down from the CCA board to pursue academic interests, according to the release. Niers, chief operating officer at Validaide , has more than 20 years of supply chain experience, including with Nike and Bier&cO . On the CCA board, Niers aims to increase supply chain collaboration to ensure less waste in temperature-controlled pharma and perishable shipments, she said in the release. Buck, head of business development at Aerotuf , has more than 20 years of experience working in cool-chain packaging, including at Sonoco ThermoSafe and SCA Cool Logistics . He aims to “drive collaboration and innovation” among CCA’s membership, he said in the release. Additionally, Gerton Hulsman , commercial director of Energy in Process , was elected as an advisory board member. Hulsman has 35 years of experience in the air cargo industry, including 12 years as managing director of the cargo subsidiaries of Germany’s Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) and Dusseldorf Airport (DUS), according to the release. Hermes Logistics names Hickey global business development manager [caption id="attachment_57144383" align="alignright" width="159"] Joe Hickey[/caption] Hermes Logistics Technologies (HLT) appointed Joe Hickey global business development manager, a role in which he will drive HLT’s sales strategy, according to a July 3 release from HLT. Before joining HLT , Hickey served as sales director at Ratio , where he built a sales function and team from the ground up, according to the release. He has previously held sales and growth roles at Move Mee , Heavy Lift & Project Forwarding International and IMSM . Vinturas appoints Style to lead Americas operations [caption id="attachment_57144018" align="alignright" width="139"] Alexander Style[/caption] Supply chain collaboration network solution provider Vinturas promoted Alexander Style to the newly created position of general manager for the Americas, as the company looks to expand across North America, according to a June 18 release. In this role, Style leads Vinturas’ operations across the Americas as well as in the United Kingdom and the Asia-Pacific region, according to the release. His responsibilities include strategic planning, sales leadership and overseeing day-to-day operations. Style joined Vinturas in May 2023 as director of sales.
