Digital Pulse: Pacific Air Cargo adds capacity to WebCargo

Pacific Air Cargo has added its capacity to the WebCargo by Freightos digital booking platform, including its recently expanded domestic U.S. cargo capacity. (Courtesy/Freightos)[/caption] Pacific Air Cargo operates more than 600 flights annually and transports more than 45,000 tonnes of cargo annually, according to an Aug. 22 release from Freightos . Pacific Air Cargo also offers charters for disaster relief, medical supplies and other critical cargo. “This partnership ... enhances our capacity offering in the Hawaii and Pacific Islands regions,” Freightos Chief Revenue Officer Manuel Galindo said in the release. “This collaboration will allow us to streamline our booking processes and offer our customers enhanced visibility and efficiency,” Pacific Air Cargo President and Chief Executive Tanja Janfruechte said in the release. AIT launches AI, data science team Supply chain solutions company AIT Worldwide Logistics created an AI and data science team, a corporate-level department that aims to enhance the company’s investment in data. The team will prepare for future implementation of next-generation AI tools to improve the company’s customer interface, according to an Aug. 28 release. To lead the new group, Patrick Chew has been promoted to vice president of AI and data science. Chew, who joined AIT in January, previously headed Caterpillar ’s enterprise data governance office. “With the establishment of the AI and data science team, the company is prepared to capitalize on generative AI , natural language processing, machine learning, large language models and other advancing technologies,” AIT Chairperson and CEO Vaughn Moore said in the release. The AI and data science team comprises three groups: Data enablement. This team will lead the companywide process to reorganize existing data strongholds to be compatible with next-generation technologies. AI governance and data science. This team will develop AI business features with an emphasis on heightened accuracy and privacy protections for customers and teammates. Business intelligence and analytics. This team will provide “dedicated, centralized reporting and visualization needs across the organization,” according to the release. “Treating data as an asset involves rigorous efforts to reorganize and harness millions of inputs, which will be applied in meaningful ways to enhance business intelligence, boost efficiency and spur innovation,” Chew said in the release. WFS introduces electric cargo-towing vehicles at AMS Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), part of the Sats Group , became the first cargo handler at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) to introduce electric cargo-towing vehicles into its operations, according to an Aug. 23 release. (Courtesy/WFS)[/caption] The Goldhofer Sherpa E6 towing trucks, supplied by TCR , are used for WFS’ ramp and cargo handling services for more than 50 airlines at AMS. AMS ranks 21st on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, with throughput of 1.4 million tonnes of cargo in 2022. T he Sherpa E6 towing vehicle produces zero emissions and operates with low energy costs and quieter noise levels, according to the release. WFS has more vehicles on order and aims to operate an entirely electric fleet of towing vehicles at AMS by the end of the second quarter of 2025. “These new electric vehicles are improving the working environment for our employees thanks to their low noise level and operating comfort,” Stephane Scholving , WFS’ managing director in the Netherlands, said in the release. “The improved tow hitch also improve safety and reduces the need for manual lifting.” WFS also invested in a fast-charging system that recharges the vehicles’ empty batteries within 80 minutes, according to the release.
