Digital Pulse: Stakeholders move to embrace technology

Airlines, freight forwarders and airports are digitalizing their efforts more as the technology becomes available and as customers seek it. In February, Qatar Airways partnered with cargo platform iNOMAD , Awery Aviation Software offered an open-access version of CargoBooking, and IBS Software acquired Accenture Freight and Logistics Software . Qatar Airways partners with iNOMAD Qatar Airways has partnered with iNOMAD, a South Korea-based air cargo platform. The partnership will enable better connectivity for one of the airline’s major customers in South Korea, Woojung Air , and help the airline increase its footprint in South Korea. With the iNOMAD portal, smaller enterprises operating with Woojung Air will be able to compare Qatar Airways Cargo’s offerings. Qatar Airways Cargo moves more than 600 tonnes of cargo into and out of South Korea, Carolyn Monchouguy, manager of cargo marketing and communications at Qatar Airways, told Air Cargo Next . “The integration and partnership with iNOMAD brings multiple benefits to our customers in South Korea, such as enhanced visibility of our capacity, rates as well as real time confirmation of their shipments,” said Guillaume Halleux, chief officer of cargo at Qatar Airways, in a release. “Customers can benefit from instant access to these features at their fingertips and that is the huge advantage digitalization brings in.” The partnership will have implications for customers outside South Korea, as well. The iNOMAD system was established in Hong Kong in 2022 and is planned for Vietnam in 2024. “We aim to become a search engine for the air logistics field in which clients can check the information they need in real time, regardless of time and place,” iNOMAD Chief Executive Joon-suk Yim said in a release. “We thus plan to do our best to nourish our customized services to build a stronger partnership, cherishing the meaningful opportunity to join Qatar Airways Cargo’s digital transformation.” The platform company plans to open a 20,000-square-meter logistics center in September 2023 as an air cargo platform terminal in South Korea’s Incheon International Airport (ICN). Awery offers open-access version of CargoBooking Awery Aviation Software has rolled out an open-access version of its online booking and quoting portal, CargoBooking, across South Africa, Switzerland and Spain. CargoBooking allows airlines and general sales agents to provide freight forwarders with real-time air cargo rate distribution, quotes and booking options in a streamlined, single location. The open-access version is live. “We believe in an air cargo digital democracy, and by offering an open-access version of our CargoBooking platform, we can help drive that transformation to the benefit of all players in the industry,” said Tristan Koch, Awery’s chief commercial officer at the Air Cargo Africa conference in Johannesburg on Feb. 22, according to a release from Awery. Awery’s eMagic solution, included with CargoBooking, converts email and text enquiries from various formats and languages into a standard data format, eliminating the need for manual processing. The information is carried through to bookings, payments and track-and-trace services. IBS Software acquires Accenture IBS Softwar e acquired Accenture Freight and Logistics Software (AFLS), which provides technology platforms to airline and ocean transportation companies. With this acquisition, IBS has gained AFLS’s cloud-based collaboration platforms. (Photo/IBS Software)[/caption] “The AFLS suite of products that IBS Software acquired from Accenture brings in specialized capability additions in two major areas,” Ashok Rajan, senior vice president and head of cargo and logistics at IBS Software, told Air Cargo Next . The first is the sales and commercial area, “ specifically in areas like embedded RM [risk management] principles in commercial operations, bidding and quotation management,” Rajan said. The second is better airline partnerships. “Accenture has developed an innovative solution that enables enhanced digital connectivity between airline partners, providing seamless quote-to-book experience for customers spanning across partner networks, such as SkyTeam Cargo ,” Rajan said. “[The] AFLS offering today operates as a separate platform, enabling the ocean carriers in areas like pricing, demurrage and detention, et cetera,” Rajan said. “However, at IBS Software, we have a wider vision for integrating ocean cargo offerings with the air cargo products, particularly considering recent developments involving major shipping companies like Maersk , MSC and CMA CGM getting into the air cargo space.” To support this expansion, IBS Software will open a development center in Chennai — its fourth in India — for travel, transportation and logistics.
