Toll Express, an arm of Australian logistics firm Toll Group, recently completed a US$20 million renovation to its depot at the Perth Airport as part of a more than $80 million initiative to upgrade and improve major property investments in Western Australia. The renovation is expected to improve not only operational efficiency, but also the working conditions for employees, the company said.
Toll Express General Manager Larry O’Regan said a massive steel overhead walkway was built to keep pedestrians from interacting with equipment, to make it a safer work environment. The 172-meter-long structure spans the width of a breezeway, which connects to the main office and training room. Additionally, the breezeway doubled in length to 287 meters to allow up to 20 vehicles at a time to deliver freight, reducing customers’ and suppliers’ wait times.
