Siemens wrapped up a new cargo system for Taiwan Air Cargo Terminal Ltd. (TACT), one of the largest air cargo services at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. The job included planning, design, delivery and erection of 669 conveyors, two cargo hoists and three elevating transfer vehicles, as well as steel racks, a control system and “Cargo Compact,” Siemens’ cargo handling software.
The automated system is designed to save air cargo handling time at TACT’s 12 apron freighter positions. TACT takes care of the import, export, consolidation and trans-shipment of air cargo, mainly for Taiwan’s home-based China Airlines.
In 2011, TACT commissioned Siemens with the extension of its materials handling system for ULDs at Taiwan’s Taouyuan and Kaohsiung airports, which Siemens originally delivered between 2008 and 2011. Taoyuan handled more than 2 million tonnes of cargo in 2014, and is served by more than 15 airfreight carriers. TACT’s warehouses at the airport comprise more than 436,000 square feet, located close to its 12 freighter aprons.
