At the end of the Paris Air Show last month, Airbus and ST Aerospace announced that they have launched an A320 Family P-to-F conversion program through their EFW joint venture. The first type to be converted will be the A321. The companies said the A321 conversions will enter service in 2018, while the smaller A320, is scheduled to follow a year later.
ST Aerospace will take responsibility for engineering development and the conversion kit, while EFW will manage the program, including sales, marketing and customer support. Airbus will provide the OEM data, cockpit computer modifications and certification support.
In response to the announcement, Stephan Hollmann, CEO of rival conversion house PACAVI Group, said he sees the ST Aero/EFW effort as “an endorsement of our market assessment and our own P-to-F program. It’s no surprise to us that others want to participate in such an attractive market as well. As we are on track to obtain the STCs for both the A320 and A321 in 2017, PACAVI is ahead of the game.”
