Taiwan-based China Airlines has relocated its regional freighter hub in the Middle East to Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central (DWC). The inaugural flight from Taipei was greeted with a traditional water salute by executives from Emirates SkyCargo and DWC. China Airlines stops in the UAE on its 747 freighter flights between Taipei an onward to Amsterdam, Luxembourg and Frankfurt.
China Airlines is one of over 25 scheduled or charter carriers, including home carrier Emirates SkyCargo, that now operate at the airport. Cargo operations are the first to move to DWC from Dubai International Airport. From DWC carriers can service more than 60 international destinations.
DWC’s freight throughput in 2014 was 758,371 tonnes, up from 209,209 tonnes in 2013. However, that includes freight that shifted from Dubai International as the transition continues.
