American Airlines Cargo has launched four international routes using a new 787-800. The widebody aircraft will operate routes between Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Beijing – a route that commenced on June 2 – and DFW and Buenos Aires, starting June 4. The carrier will then add a DFW-to-Shanghai route on June 26 and Chicago-to-Narita on Aug. 18.
The 787-800 aircraft has 28 positions for cargo and advanced engine technology to provide better fuel efficiency than similar-sized, older aircraft. It can carry up to 1,000 pounds of dry ice, a necessary component in the shipment of high-value pharmaceutical and perishable goods.
“The efficiency of the aircraft allows us to offer more air cargo opportunities, while simultaneously reducing our carbon footprint,” said Jim Butler, President of AA Cargo.
